ONLINE COURSE DESCRIPTION
Research indicates that 80% of our perception, learning, cognition, and activities are mediated by vision. There is a very high incidence of visual and visual cognitive disorders in neurologically impaired patients. In evaluating a client with low vision a therapist in addition to typical measures of visual acuity and oculomotor control should be able to differentiate between symptoms of hemianopia and hemi-inattention. This challenge can be overcome by gaining a better understanding of the available tests, behaviors and clinical presentations. From this foundation, this short course will explore the available rehabilitation techniques for neglect as well as field deficits including but not limited to cognitive rehabilitation approaches, visual scanning training, sensory stimulation, and prism adaptation. Current evidence supporting these interventions with their implementation in a clinic setting will be discussed.

- Subah Gupta MHS, OTR, CBIS
Subah received her Bachelor in Occupational Therapy from India and her Masters in Health Sciences from University of Indianapolis. She has been a practicing clinician for 18 years. Currently she works as a clinical leader in Lutheran Hospital. In the last 8 years she has developed a special interest in working with pediatric as well as adult population with visual disorders. Ms. Gupta has brain injury and sensory integration certification and teaches as a guest lecturer. She has presented on varied topics in vision at the 2014 and 2016 IOTA State Conference.
